## Default answer

Example with the default inputs (Shape Slab, block or footing, Length 10 ft, Width 10 ft, Thickness 0.333333333333333 ft, How many 1, Concrete Normal concrete, 150 lb/ft³): The concrete weighs 5,000 lb (2.5 short tons).

## Inputs

| Key | Label | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| shape | Shape | The shape of the concrete, or a volume you already know. |
| l | Length | The length of the slab or block. |
| w | Width | The width of the slab or block. |
| t | Thickness | The thickness or depth of the slab or block. |
| d | Diameter | The diameter of the column or pier. |
| h | Height | The height of the column or pier. |
| v | Volume | The volume of concrete. |
| n | How many | How many pieces of this size. |
| mix | Concrete | The density of the concrete. Normal concrete is 140 to 150 lb/ft³ (2,240 to 2,400 kg/m³). |
| rho | Density | The density of the concrete, for lightweight or heavyweight mixes. |

## Outputs

| Key | Label | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| total | Concrete weight | Volume × density. |
| tons | Short tons | The weight in US tons of 2,000 lb. |
| tonnes | Metric tonnes | The weight in tonnes of 1,000 kg. |
| cubicYards | Volume, cubic yards | The total volume in cubic yards. |
| cubicFeet | Volume, cubic feet | The total volume in cubic feet. |
| cubicMeters | Volume, cubic metres | The total volume in cubic metres. |

## Method

Weight = volume × density. Slab: length × width × thickness; column: π ÷ 4 × diameter² × height; times how many.

## Assumptions

- Normal concrete weighs 140 to 150 lb/ft³ (2,240 to 2,400 kg/m³); the calculator offers 150 and 140 lb/ft³ and 2,400 kg/m³, or your own density.
- Reinforcing steel and the water in fresh concrete add a little weight; type a density to include them.

## FAQ

### How much does concrete weigh?

Normal concrete weighs about 140 to 150 lb per cubic foot (2,240 to 2,400 kg/m³). At 150 lb/ft³, a cubic yard (27 ft³) weighs 4,050 lb, a little over 2 tons.

### How do I calculate the weight of a concrete slab?

Multiply length × width × thickness, all in feet, to get cubic feet, then multiply by the density. A 10 × 10 ft slab 4 in thick is 10 × 10 × 4 ÷ 12 = 33.33 ft³, and at 150 lb/ft³ it weighs 5,000 lb.

### How much does a cubic metre of concrete weigh?

About 2,400 kg (2.4 tonnes) for normal concrete, or 2,240 kg at the light end of the normal range.

### How much does a concrete column weigh?

Use the cylinder volume, π ÷ 4 × diameter² × height. A pier 1 ft across and 8 ft tall holds 6.28 ft³ and weighs about 942 lb at 150 lb/ft³.

### Does rebar or wet concrete change the weight?

A little. Steel reinforcing and the water in fresh concrete add weight. If you know the density of your mix, choose Other and type it.

### How many tons is a yard of concrete?

4,050 lb at 150 lb/ft³, which is 2.025 short tons of 2,000 lb.
