## Default answer

Example with the default inputs (Decimal 0.625): 0.625 × 100 = 62.5%.

## Inputs

| Key | Label | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| d | Decimal | The decimal to write as a percent, for example 0.625. |

## Outputs

| Key | Label | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| percent | Percent | The decimal × 100, with every digit, and a percent sign. |
| value | Percent (number) | The same percent as a number, without the sign. |
| work | How | The decimal times 100. |

## Method

percent = decimal × 100: move the decimal point two places to the right and add the % sign.

## Assumptions

- The decimal is taken exactly as typed, so the percent shows every digit with no rounding.
- A decimal above 1 gives a percent above 100%; a negative decimal gives a negative percent.

## Worked examples

1. d = 0.625 gives percent = 62.5%, value = 62.5, work = 0.625 × 100 = 62.5%. ## FAQ

### How do you change a decimal to a percent?

Multiply by 100 and add the % sign. In practice you move the decimal point two places to the right: 0.625 becomes 62.5%.

### What is 0.05 as a percent?

0.05 × 100 = 5, so 0.05 is 5%. Add zeros as needed when you move the point: 0.005 is 0.5%.

### Can a percent be more than 100%?

Yes. Any decimal above 1 is more than 100%: 1.2 is 120% and 3 is 300%.

### What about a negative decimal?

The sign stays: −0.0035 is −0.35%. A negative percent often stands for a decrease.

### Why does the answer not round?

The page works on the decimal exactly as you typed it, so multiplying by 100 only moves the point. 0.1 gives exactly 10%, not 10.000000000000002%.

### How do I go back from a percent to a decimal?

Divide by 100, or move the point two places to the left: 62.5% is 0.625. The percent to decimal calculator does this.
