## Default answer

Example with the default inputs (Percent 62.5%): 62.5% ÷ 100 = 0.625.

## Inputs

| Key | Label | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| p | Percent | The percent to write as a decimal, for example 62.5%. |

## Outputs

| Key | Label | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| decimal | Decimal | The percent ÷ 100, with every digit. |
| work | How | The percent divided by 100. |

## Method

decimal = percent ÷ 100: move the decimal point two places to the left and drop the % sign.

## Assumptions

- The percent is taken exactly as typed, so the decimal shows every digit with no rounding.
- A percent above 100% gives a decimal above 1; a negative percent gives a negative decimal.

## FAQ

### How do you change a percent to a decimal?

Divide by 100 and drop the % sign. In practice you move the decimal point two places to the left: 62.5% becomes 0.625.

### What is 5% as a decimal?

5 ÷ 100 = 0.05. Add a zero in front when you move the point past the first digit.

### What is 0.35% as a decimal?

0.35 ÷ 100 = 0.0035. A percent below 1% gives a decimal below 0.01.

### What is 120% as a decimal?

120 ÷ 100 = 1.2. Any percent above 100% is a decimal above 1.

### Why use the decimal form?

You multiply by the decimal to take a percent of a number: 15% of 80 is 0.15 × 80 = 12. Interest rates go into formulas as decimals too.

### How do I go from a decimal back to a percent?

Multiply by 100: 0.625 is 62.5%. The decimal to percent calculator does this.
