## Method

Find the first date of Christmas on or after the start date, then count the days from the start date to it.

## Assumptions

- Christmas Day is December 25 every year.
- Start dates from January 1, 1986 to December 31, 2400 work, because the US federal holiday rules used here start in 1986.
- The start date itself is not counted: from the day before, the count is 1; on the day itself, it is 0.
- Dates are calendar days with no time of day, so a time zone or a daylight-saving change never adds or loses a day.
- When the date falls on a weekend, the US federal day off moves to the Friday before or the Monday after; the count is to the date itself.
