## Method

Days until = the date − the start date, in calendar days.

## Assumptions

- The start date itself is not counted: from the day before, the count is 1; on the day itself, it is 0.
- Dates are calendar days with no time of day, so a time zone or a daylight-saving change never adds or loses a day.
- Years, months, and days: the most whole years, then the most whole months, then the days left. A month from a day that the next month does not have ends on that month’s last day (January 31 plus one month is February 28, or 29 in a leap year).
- Dates from January 1, 1900 to December 31, 2400 work.

## FAQ

### How do I count the days until a date?

Take the date you count to minus the date you count from, in calendar days. From September 29, 2026 to January 1, 2027, that is 1 day left in September, 31 in October, 30 in November, 31 in December, and 1 more to reach January 1: 94 days.

### Does the count include today?

No. The start date is not counted, so the day before the date the count is 1, and on the date itself it is 0. To count both the first and the last day, add 1.

### Can a time zone or a daylight saving change make the count wrong?

No. The count uses calendar dates with no time of day, so a night when the clocks go forward or back still counts as one day. The calculator starts from the date on your own device, so it counts from your today wherever you are.

### What if the date has already passed?

Then there is nothing left to count down, and the calculator asks for a later date. To count the days since a past date, use the Days Between Dates Calculator.

### Why does the answer change from day to day?

The start date is today unless you change it, so each day the count is one smaller. The page reads today’s date from your device when it opens; the number in the page before that is for the day the page was built, and says so.
