## Default answer

Example with the default inputs (Your stays [Entry May 1, 2026, Exit May 30, 2026; Entry July 10, 2026, Exit August 8, 2026], Check on October 5, 2026) on the example date Monday, October 5, 2026: On October 5, 2026 you have used 60 of your 90 days, with 30 left.

## Inputs

| Key | Label | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| stays | Your stays | One row per stay in the Schengen area: the day you entered and the day you left. |
| on | Check on | The date to check, or the day you plan to enter. Today, unless you change it. |

## Outputs

| Key | Label | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| left | Days left | 90 − days used on the check date (0 when none are left). |
| used | Days used | Distinct days of stay in the 180 days that end on the check date. |
| status | Status | Whether the 90-day limit holds on the check date. |
| windowStart | 180-day period from | The first day of the 180-day period that ends on the check date (179 days before it). |
| stayUntil | Stay until, entering on the check date | The last day you could stay without a break if you entered on the check date, with every day inside 90 in 180. |
| stayDays | Longest stay from the check date | The days from the check date to that last day, both counted. |

## Method

days used on day x = distinct days of stay from x − 179 to x (entry and exit days count); days left = 90 − days used on the check date; stay until = the last day d such that, staying from the check date to d, every day keeps 90 or fewer days used.

## Assumptions

- Every stay is in the Schengen area; the days of entry and exit count in full.
- Overlapping or repeated stays count each day once.
- Stays you list after the check date count toward the stay-until date, as planned trips.
- Visa-free short stays only: a long-stay visa or residence permit is not counted, and some countries have bilateral agreements.

## FAQ

### How does the 90/180 rule work?

On any day of a short stay, count the days you spent in the Schengen area in the 180 days that end that day. The count must be 90 or less. The 180-day period moves forward one day at a time.

### Do the entry and exit days count?

Yes. The European Commission counts the day you enter and the day you leave as full days of stay, even if you spend only an hour there.

### How do I work out how many days I have left?

Count the distinct days of stay from 179 days before the date to the date itself, and subtract from 90. Stays of 30 days in May and 30 days from July 10 leave 30 days on October 5, 2026.

### How long can I stay if I enter today?

Stay day by day while every day keeps 90 or fewer days used in its own 180-day period. As old days drop out of the period, you can often stay longer than the days left today.

### Does the rule apply to each country separately?

No. All the Schengen countries count together: days in France, Spain and Germany add up to one total.

### Who does the 90/180 rule apply to?

Visitors who need no visa for short stays, and holders of a short-stay Schengen visa. Residence permits and long-stay national visas are separate, and a few countries have bilateral agreements.
