## Method

GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ(credits); cumulative GPA = (GPA so far × credits so far + Σ(grade points × credits)) ÷ (credits so far + Σ(credits)).

## Assumptions

- Grade points follow the University of Michigan-Dearborn 4.0 scale: A+ and A 4.0, A- 3.7, B+ 3.3, B 3.0, B- 2.7, C+ 2.3, C 2.0, C- 1.7, D+ 1.3, D 1.0, D- 0.7, F (or E) 0.0.
- Courses marked Not counted (pass, withdrawal, incomplete) are left out of both the grade points and the credits; an F counts with 0 points.
- The GPA is shown to two decimal places, rounded. Some schools cut off (truncate) instead, so a GPA of 3.4846 can show as 3.48.
- This is an unweighted GPA: honors and AP courses get no extra points.

## FAQ

### How do I calculate my GPA?

Turn each letter grade into grade points, multiply by the course credits, add them up, and divide by the total credits. B+ in a 3-credit course, C in a 4-credit course, and A in a 3-credit course give (3.3 × 3 + 2.0 × 4 + 4.0 × 3) ÷ 10 = 29.9 ÷ 10 = 2.99.

### What grade points does each letter get?

On the 4.0 scale used here (University of Michigan-Dearborn): A+ and A 4.0, A- 3.7, B+ 3.3, B 3.0, B- 2.7, C+ 2.3, C 2.0, C- 1.7, D+ 1.3, D 1.0, D- 0.7, and F (E) 0.0. Some schools give an A+ 4.33 or use 3.67 and 3.33 for A- and B+, so check your registrar.

### How do I calculate my cumulative GPA?

Multiply your GPA so far by the credits it covers, add this term's grade points, and divide by all the credits. A 3.2 GPA over 30 credits plus 45.3 grade points over 13 credits gives (96 + 45.3) ÷ 43 = 3.29. Open "Add earlier terms" and enter both numbers.

### Do pass/fail and withdrawn courses count?

Usually not. A pass (P), withdrawal (W), or incomplete (I) carries no grade points and its credits are left out, so it does not change your GPA. Pick Not counted for those courses. A failing grade (F or E) does count, with 0 points, so it lowers your GPA.

### Why does my transcript show a slightly different GPA?

Schools differ in small ways: some cut the GPA off at two decimals instead of rounding (2.1875 shows as 2.18), some use 3.67 and 3.33 instead of 3.7 and 3.3, and some count only the last try of a repeated course.

### Is this a weighted or unweighted GPA?

Unweighted. Every course uses the same 4.0 scale, so honors and AP courses get no extra points.
