## Default answer

Example with the default inputs (Attack 60, Strength 60, Defence 50, Hitpoints 55, Prayer 43, Ranged 50, Magic 55): Your combat level is 70 (Melee).

## Inputs

| Key | Label | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| att | Attack | Your Attack level, from 1 to 99. |
| str | Strength | Your Strength level, from 1 to 99. |
| def | Defence | Your Defence level, from 1 to 99. |
| hp | Hitpoints | Your Hitpoints level, from 10 to 99. |
| pray | Prayer | Your Prayer level, from 1 to 99. |
| rng | Ranged | Your Ranged level, from 1 to 99. |
| mag | Magic | Your Magic level, from 1 to 99. |

## Outputs

| Key | Label | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| combat | Combat level | The whole combat level, from 3 to 126. |
| exact | Combat level with decimals | Base plus the largest of melee, ranged and magic, before rounding down. |
| type | Combat type | Which of melee, ranged and magic counts: the largest. |
| base | Base | ¼ × (Defence + Hitpoints + ⌊Prayer ÷ 2⌋). |
| melee | Melee part | 13/40 × (Attack + Strength). |
| ranged | Ranged part | 13/40 × ⌊3 × Ranged ÷ 2⌋. |
| magic | Magic part | 13/40 × ⌊3 × Magic ÷ 2⌋. |
| nextAtt | Attack or Strength levels to the next combat level | The fewest more Attack or Strength levels that raise the combat level by 1, with every other skill as it is; empty when 99 is not enough. |
| nextDef | Defence or Hitpoints levels to the next combat level | The fewest more Defence or Hitpoints levels that raise the combat level by 1, with every other skill as it is; empty when 99 is not enough. |
| nextPray | Prayer levels to the next combat level | The fewest more Prayer levels that raise the combat level by 1, with every other skill as it is; empty when 99 is not enough. |
| nextRng | Ranged levels to the next combat level | The fewest more Ranged levels that raise the combat level by 1, with every other skill as it is; empty when 99 is not enough. |
| nextMag | Magic levels to the next combat level | The fewest more Magic levels that raise the combat level by 1, with every other skill as it is; empty when 99 is not enough. |

## Method

base = ¼ × (Defence + Hitpoints + ⌊Prayer ÷ 2⌋); melee = 13/40 × (Attack + Strength); ranged = 13/40 × ⌊3 × Ranged ÷ 2⌋; magic = 13/40 × ⌊3 × Magic ÷ 2⌋; combat level = ⌊base + max(melee, ranged, magic)⌋.

## Assumptions

- Levels are the base levels from 1 to 99 (Hitpoints from 10), not boosted levels.
- The levels to the next combat level raise one skill at a time and keep the others as they are.

## Worked examples

1. att = 1, str = 1, def = 1, hp = 10, pray = 1, rng = 1, mag = 1 gives combat = 3, exact = 3.4, type = Melee, base = 2.75, melee = 0.65. 2. att = 99, str = 99, def = 99, hp = 99, pray = 99, rng = 99, mag = 99 gives combat = 126, exact = 126.1, type = Melee, base = 61.75, melee = 64.35. 3. att = 1, str = 1, def = 99, hp = 99, pray = 99, rng = 99, mag = 1 gives combat = 109, exact = 109.85, type = Ranged, ranged = 48.1. 4. att = 60, str = 60, def = 50, hp = 55, pray = 43, rng = 50, mag = 55 gives combat = 70, exact = 70.5, type = Melee, nextAtt = 2, nextDef = 2, nextPray = 3. ## FAQ

### How is the OSRS combat level calculated?

Base = ¼ × (Defence + Hitpoints + ⌊Prayer ÷ 2⌋). Melee = 13/40 × (Attack + Strength), ranged = 13/40 × ⌊1.5 × Ranged⌋ and magic = 13/40 × ⌊1.5 × Magic⌋. The combat level is base plus the largest of the three, rounded down.

### What is the highest combat level?

126, with every combat skill at 99: base 61.75 plus melee 64.35 is 126.1. A ranged or magic account with 1 Attack and 1 Strength stops at 109.

### Why does a new account start at combat level 3?

A new account has 10 Hitpoints and 1 in every other skill: base = ¼ × (1 + 10 + 0) = 2.75, plus melee 13/40 × 2 = 0.65, is 3.4, rounded down to 3.

### Which skills raise combat level fastest?

For a melee account each Attack or Strength level adds 0.325, each Defence or Hitpoints level 0.25, and each two Prayer levels 0.25. For a ranged or magic account each Ranged or Magic level adds about 0.4875.

### Why did my Prayer level not raise my combat level?

Only half the Prayer level counts, rounded down, so Prayer adds to combat on even levels only.

### Do boosted levels count?

No. The combat level uses your base levels. Potions and other boosts do not change it.
