## Default answer

Example with the default inputs (Fit by Wrist to floor, Wrist to floor 35 in, Clubs Men’s, Shafts Graphite): Your clubs: standard length, a 37.25 in 7-iron and a 45 in driver.

## Inputs

| Key | Label | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| by | Fit by | Your wrist-to-floor measurement (better), or your height only. |
| wtf | Wrist to floor | Standing straight in flat shoes, arms hanging relaxed: from the crease of your wrist to the floor. |
| ht | Height | Your height in socks. |
| set | Clubs | Men’s standard lengths, or women’s, which are 1 inch shorter. |
| shaft | Shafts | Graphite shafts are made longer than steel: 1 inch in the woods, ½ inch in the irons. |

## Outputs

| Key | Label | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| fit | Length change | How much longer (+) or shorter (−) than standard your clubs should be, as a starting point. |
| change | Change in inches | The length change as a number of inches. |
| driver | Driver | The driver length: standard plus your change. |
| wood3 | 3-wood | The 3-wood length: standard plus your change. |
| wood5 | 5-wood | The 5-wood length: standard plus your change. |
| iron4 | 4-iron | The 4-iron length: standard plus your change. |
| iron5 | 5-iron | The 5-iron length: standard plus your change. |
| iron6 | 6-iron | The 6-iron length: standard plus your change. |
| iron7 | 7-iron | The 7-iron length: standard plus your change. |
| iron8 | 8-iron | The 8-iron length: standard plus your change. |
| iron9 | 9-iron | The 9-iron length: standard plus your change. |
| wedge | Pitching wedge | The pitching wedge length: standard plus your change. |
| sand | Sand wedge | The sand wedge length: standard plus your change. |
| putter | Putter | Putters are fitted by posture; this is the standard length (34 in men’s, 33 in women’s), not changed. |

## Method

change = chart band of the wrist-to-floor (or height) measurement, −1 to +1.5 in; each club = standard length for the set and shaft + change; putter = standard.

## Assumptions

- This is a starting point. A fitter also looks at your swing, tempo and how well you strike the ball; driver length in particular is often fitted shorter for control.
- Below the chart’s lowest band the change stays −1 in, and from its top band up it is +1.5 in.
- Standard lengths differ by maker; these are Pinemeadow Golf’s. Women’s clubs are 1 in shorter than men’s.
- A measurement is read exactly in the unit typed, so 30 in (76.2 cm) is compared with the 76 cm band edge exactly.

## FAQ

### How do I know what length golf clubs I need?

Start with your wrist-to-floor measurement: stand straight in flat shoes with your arms hanging relaxed and measure from the crease of your wrist to the floor. On the My Golf Barn chart, 81 to 91 cm (about 32 to 36 in) is standard length, 91 to 97 cm is ½ in longer, and 76 to 81 cm is ½ in shorter.

### Is wrist-to-floor better than height?

Yes. Two people of the same height can have different arm lengths, and the wrist-to-floor measurement captures both. Hireko Golf calls it a more accurate starting point than height alone, and a tall golfer with long arms can need standard or even shorter clubs.

### What is a standard club length?

There is no industry standard; each maker sets its own. Pinemeadow Golf’s men’s graphite lengths are 45 in for the driver, 43 in for the 3-wood and 37.25 in for the 7-iron. Steel shafts are 1 in shorter in the woods and ½ in in the irons, and women’s clubs are 1 in shorter.

### How do I apply a length change to my set?

Add the same change to every club. If the chart says +½ in, a 37.25 in 7-iron becomes 37.75 in and a 45 in driver becomes 45.5 in. The calculator lists every club with the change added. The putter is fitted by posture, so it stays at the standard length.

### Should I always play longer clubs if I am tall?

No. Longer clubs can add speed, but they are harder to hit in the center of the face. Club fitters often fit the driver shorter than the chart for control. Treat the result as a starting point and confirm it with a fitter or by testing clubs.
