## Default answer

Example with the default inputs (Distance 1,640.41994750656 yd, Time 30 min, Pace per 100 m): Swimming 1,640 yd in 30:00 is a pace of 2:00 per 100 m.

## Inputs

| Key | Label | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| d | Distance | The distance swum. A mile swim is 1,650 yd in a pool, an Olympic triathlon swim 1,500 m. |
| t | Time | The time taken for the whole distance. |
| p | Pace | The time taken for each 100 meters or each 100 yards. |
| per | Pace per | Whether the pace is the time per 100 meters or per 100 yards. |

## Outputs

| Key | Label | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| distance | Distance | The distance swum. A mile swim is 1,650 yd in a pool, an Olympic triathlon swim 1,500 m. |
| time | Time | The time taken for the whole distance. |
| pace | Pace | The time taken for each 100 meters or each 100 yards. |
| paceText | Pace | The pace per 100 m or per 100 yd (as chosen), as m:ss with its unit, for example 2:00 per 100 m. |
| finish | Finish time | The time for the whole distance, as h:mm:ss. |
| per100m | Pace per 100 m | The time for each 100 meters, as m:ss. |
| per100yd | Pace per 100 yd | The time for each 100 yards, as m:ss. |
| speed | Average speed | The average speed: distance ÷ time. |

## Method

pace = time ÷ (distance ÷ 100 m), or time ÷ (distance ÷ 100 yd) with 1 yd = 0.9144 m; speed = distance ÷ time.

## Assumptions

- The pace is the average over the whole swim, turns and rests included.
- Finish time and paces are rounded to the nearest second for display.
- The distance is at least 1 meter, and the time and the pace are at least 1 second.

## FAQ

### How do I calculate swim pace per 100?

Divide your time by the distance in hundreds. 1,500 m in 30 minutes is 1,800 s ÷ 15 = 120 s: 2:00 per 100 m.

### How do I convert pace per 100 yards to per 100 meters?

100 yd is 91.44 m, so divide the pace per 100 yd by 0.9144. A 1:40 pace per 100 yd is 100 ÷ 0.9144 = 109.4 s: 1:49 per 100 m.

### How long will a swim take at my pace?

Multiply the pace by the distance in hundreds. 400 m at 1:35 per 100 m is 4 × 95 s = 380 s, or 6:20.

### What is a good swim pace?

Many fitness swimmers hold 2:00 to 2:30 per 100 m over a long swim; strong triathletes swim near 1:30 per 100 m, and elite 1,500 m swimmers under 1:00.

### How far is a mile swim?

A pool mile is usually 1,650 yd (66 lengths of a 25-yard pool), a little short of the 1,760 yd land mile. Open-water miles are often 1,500 or 1,609 m.
