How to calculate
Converts money between the euro and the 29 currencies the European Central Bank quotes, at the ECB reference rates or your own rate.
Example with the default inputs (Amount 100, From US dollar (USD), To Euro (EUR)): 100 in US dollar (USD) is 87.89 in Euro (EUR), at a rate of 0.878889. The ECB reference rates of 28 September 2026 give a rate of 0.878889.
Method: converted amount = amount × rate. The ECB rate for a pair is (to per euro) ÷ (from per euro), from the ECB euro reference rates.
- The default rate comes from the ECB euro reference rates of 28 September 2026. The ECB publishes them for information purposes only, not for transactions.
- The ECB quotes each currency against the euro. A rate between two other currencies is a cross rate this site works out from the two euro rates; the ECB does not publish it.
- Banks, cards, and exchange offices add a margin or a fee, so the rate you get is usually worse. Type their rate into "Your rate" to see what you would receive.
- The converted amount is rounded to 2 decimal places, without trailing zeros (24.4 means 24.40); the calculation keeps full precision.

Other questions people ask
Where do the exchange rates come from?
From the euro foreign exchange reference rates of the European Central Bank (ECB), here those of 28 September 2026. The ECB publishes them at about 16:00 CET on each TARGET working day. This site copies them into the page when it is built, so the answer states their date.
How is the answer worked out?
Converted amount = amount × rate. If you type your own rate, the converter uses it. Otherwise it uses the ECB rate for the pair: (to per euro) ÷ (from per euro), where "per euro" is how many units of a currency 1 euro buys, and the euro itself is 1. The page rounds amounts to 2 decimal places, without trailing zeros (24.4 means 24.40), and shows rates to 6 significant figures; the calculation keeps full precision.
Can I use this rate at my bank?
Not exactly. The ECB publishes its reference rates for information purposes only, and strongly discourages their use for transactions. Banks, cards, and exchange offices add a margin or a fee. Type the rate your bank offers into "Your rate" to see what you would receive.
How is the rate between two non-euro currencies found?
The ECB quotes every currency against the euro only. The rate from currency A to currency B is (B per euro) ÷ (A per euro). For example, if 1 euro buys 1.1378 US dollars and 1.6118 Canadian dollars, then 1 US dollar buys 1.6118 ÷ 1.1378 = 1.416593 Canadian dollars, so 100 US dollars is 141.66 Canadian dollars. This cross rate is worked out by this site; the ECB does not publish it.
Why is my currency missing?
The converter covers the euro and each currency the ECB quotes. The ECB stopped quoting some currencies (the Russian rouble in 2022), and currencies that join the euro leave the list (the Bulgarian lev in 2026). A currency the ECB does not quote has no reliable free rate here, so it is left out.
How often do the rates change?
The ECB sets one reference rate per currency per working day. The rates on this page change when the site is rebuilt with a newer copy. The date at the top and in the answer tells you which day you see.
