How to calculate

Estimates YouTube earnings per day, month and year from daily views and your RPM (revenue per 1,000 views), or the views you need for an income.

Example with the default inputs (Views per day 10,000, RPM $3.00): 10,000 views a day at an RPM of $3.00 earn about $30.00 a day, $912.50 a month, or $10,950.00 a year.

Formula: earnings per day = views per day × RPM ÷ 1,000; per month = per day × 365 ÷ 12; per year = per day × 365. RPM is revenue per 1,000 views after YouTube’s share.

  • The RPM you type stays the same every day. Real RPM changes with the season, the audience’s country, the topic and how many views have ads.
  • Views are the same every day; a month is 365 ÷ 12 days and a year 365 days.
  • RPM already has YouTube’s share taken out. Earnings are before income tax.
  • Arithmetic is exact on the typed decimals; money shows to the cent and views to the whole number, halves up.

  3. Views per day 2,500, Earnings per day $6.25 gives RPM $2.50.Source: YouTube Help, "Understand ad revenue analytics": RPM is revenue per 1,000 views after YouTube’s share (https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9314357)

How it works

RPM (revenue per mille) is what you earn per 1,000 views after YouTube’s share. With the views per day V, your RPM R, and your earnings per day D:

  • Earnings per day D = V × R ÷ 1,000
  • Views per day V = D ÷ R × 1,000
  • RPM R = D ÷ V × 1,000
  • Earnings per month = D × 365 ÷ 12 (an average month)
  • Earnings per year = D × 365

Fill in any two of the views, the RPM and the earnings per day, and the calculator works out the third, then the month and the year.

Rules:

  • The views per day are more than 0 and at most 10 billion. The RPM is more than $0 and at most $1,000. The earnings per day are more than $0 and at most $10 billion. A worked-out value outside these limits has no answer.
  • The arithmetic is exact on the decimals you type. Money shows to the cent, and views to the whole number, with halves rounded up (away from 0).

Assumptions

  • The RPM and the views stay the same every day. Real RPM changes with the season, the audience and the share of views with ads.
  • The RPM already has YouTube’s share taken out. Earnings are before income tax.
  • A month is 365 ÷ 12 days and a year is 365 days.

Worked examples by hand

10,000 views a day at a $3 RPM. D = 10,000 × 3 ÷ 1,000 = $30 a day. A month is 30 × 365 ÷ 12 = $912.50, and a year is 30 × 365 = $10,950.

$100 a day at a $4 RPM. V = 100 ÷ 4 × 1,000 = 25,000 views a day. A month is 100 × 365 ÷ 12 = 3,041.666…, shown as $3,041.67, and a year is $36,500.

$6.25 a day from 2,500 views. R = 6.25 ÷ 2,500 × 1,000 = $2.50.

Other questions people ask

How much does YouTube pay per 1,000 views?

It depends on the channel. Your RPM (revenue per mille) is what you earn per 1,000 views after YouTube’s share, and YouTube Studio shows it under Analytics, Revenue. The calculator uses the RPM you type and does not guess one for you.

How do I calculate YouTube earnings?

Multiply your views by your RPM and divide by 1,000. 10,000 views a day at a $3 RPM is 10,000 × 3 ÷ 1,000 = $30 a day, $912.50 in an average month, and $10,950 a year.

How many views do I need to make $100 a day?

Divide $100 by your RPM and multiply by 1,000. At a $4 RPM you need 100 ÷ 4 × 1,000 = 25,000 views a day.

What is the difference between RPM and CPM on YouTube?

CPM is what advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions, before YouTube’s share. RPM is what you earn per 1,000 views, after YouTube’s share, and it counts every view, including views with no ad. RPM is the number to use for your earnings.

Why does my RPM change from month to month?

Advertisers pay more in some seasons and for some audiences and topics, and not every view shows an ad. The calculator keeps the RPM you type the same every day, so it gives an estimate, not a promise.

Is YouTube money taxed?

Yes. YouTube earnings are income, and the calculator shows them before tax. In the US, self-employment income over $400 a year also needs self-employment tax.
