How to calculate
Computes the profit and total payout of a single bet from its stake and American, decimal or fractional odds, or the stake needed to win a chosen profit.
Example with the default inputs (Odds format American, Odds -110, I know My stake, Stake $100.00): A $100.00 bet at -110 pays $190.91 in total, a profit of $90.91, if it wins.
Method: Payout = stake × d; profit = stake × (d − 1); stake for a profit P = P ÷ (d − 1), where d is the decimal odds.
- A single bet that either wins or loses; a loss returns nothing.
- Taxes and any fee the bookmaker charges on winnings are not included.
- Results are mathematics, not betting advice.

- Odds format American, Odds +250, I know My stake, Stake $20.00 gives Profit if it wins $50.00, Total payout $70.00, Implied probability 28.571429%.Source: hand calculation in content.mdx: 20 × 250 ÷ 100 = 50
- Odds format Fractional, Odds 5/2, I know What I want to win, Profit wanted $100.00 gives Stake $40.00, Total payout $140.00, American odds +250.Source: hand calculation in content.mdx: 100 ÷ 2.5 = 40
- Odds format Decimal, Odds 1.5, I know What I want to win, Profit wanted $30.00 gives Stake $60.00, Total payout $90.00, American odds -200.Source: hand calculation in content.mdx: 30 ÷ 0.5 = 60
How it works
The odds become decimal odds d, the total return per 1 staked, as an exact fraction: American +A gives d = 1 + A ÷ 100, American −A gives d = 1 + 100 ÷ A (A ≥ 100), fractional a/b gives d = 1 + a ÷ b.
When you know the stake S:
- Profit = S × (d − 1)
- Total payout = S × d = S + profit
When you know the profit P you want:
- Stake = P ÷ (d − 1)
- Total payout = stake + P
It also shows the implied probability 100 ÷ d percent and the odds in American format (rounded to 2 decimals, halves away from 0).
What you can type: spaces are ignored and − reads as -. Each format has its own shape, so odds typed in another format are never read as this one: the page says which format they are in and gives the same price in the chosen format. American odds have a + or − sign and a size of at least 100 (+150, -110, +1,000; commas are thousands commas). Decimal odds are a plain number above 1 with no sign (2.5); a single comma with no point is a decimal comma (2,5 is 2.5) unless exactly 3 digits follow it (1,000 is 1000), and any other comma is a thousands comma. Fractional odds are a/b, a:b, a-b or a to b with a and b above 0, or evens, even or evs (any letter case, to too); a bare number is not fractional odds. A number with no sign typed as American odds (100 or more), a whole number typed as fractional odds, or a number below 100 typed as a probability gets a message saying what to add (+150, 4/1, 40%). Decimal odds above 1,000,001 (American +100,000,000) give no answer. Stakes and profits are above 0 and at most 1,000,000,000.
Assumptions
- A single bet that wins or loses. A losing bet returns nothing.
- No taxes, fees or commission.
Worked examples by hand
110 at −110. d − 1 = 100 ÷ 110. Profit = 110 × 100 ÷ 110 = 100; payout = 110 + 100 = 210.
20 at +250. d − 1 = 250 ÷ 100 = 2.5. Profit = 20 × 2.5 = 50; payout = 70. Implied probability = 100 ÷ 3.5 = 28.57%.
To win 100 at 5/2. Stake = 100 ÷ 2.5 = 40; payout = 40 + 100 = 140. In American format 5/2 is +250.
To win 30 at decimal 1.5. Stake = 30 ÷ 0.5 = 60; payout = 90. In American format 1.5 is −100 ÷ 0.5 = −200.

Other questions people ask
How do I calculate the payout of a bet?
Multiply the stake by the decimal odds. A 20 stake at +250 (decimal 3.5) pays 20 × 3.5 = 70 in total: the 20 stake back plus 50 profit.
How much do I win on a −110 bet?
At −110 you stake 110 to win 100. For any stake, the profit is stake × 100 ÷ 110. A 50 stake wins 45.45, for a payout of 95.45.
What is the difference between payout and profit?
The payout is everything you get back when the bet wins, including your stake. The profit is the payout minus the stake. Decimal odds give the payout per 1 staked; American and fractional odds describe the profit.
How much do I need to bet to win 100?
Divide 100 by the decimal odds minus 1. At fractional 5/2 (decimal 3.5), you need 100 ÷ 2.5 = 40. At −200 (decimal 1.5), you need 100 ÷ 0.5 = 200.
Are taxes included?
No. In the United States gambling winnings are taxable income (IRS Topic 419), but this calculator shows only the payout before any tax or fee.
