How to calculate
Works out a chronological age in years, months, and days from a birth date, on today or any date, with the total days and the next birthday.
Example with the default inputs (Date of birth February 2, 2002, Age on October 5, 2026) on the example date Monday, October 5, 2026: You: 24 years, 8 months, 3 days old on October 5, 2026.
Method: Count whole years from the date of birth while the birthday is on or before the age-on date, then whole months the same way, then the days left.
- A month is counted when the same day of the month is reached; when that month is shorter, its last day counts (January 31 plus one month is February 28, or 29 in a leap year).
- A February 29 birthday falls on February 28 in common years.
- Total days count from the date of birth up to the age-on date, the birth day itself not included, so a baby is 1 day old the day after birth.
- Dates are calendar days with no time of day or time zone, so daylight-saving changes cannot add or lose a day.
- A date of birth after the age-on date gives no answer.

How it works
The age runs from the date of birth to the age-on date (today, unless you change it). Dates are calendar days in the Gregorian calendar with no time of day or time zone.
- Years. The most whole years Y such that the birthday in year (birth year + Y) is on or before the age-on date.
- Months. From that birthday, the most whole months M (0 to 11) such that the same day of the month, M months later, is on or before the age-on date.
- Days. The days left from that date to the age-on date.
When a month does not have the birth day, the month’s last day counts instead: one month after January 31 is February 28 (or 29 in a leap year), and a February 29 birthday falls on February 28 in common years.
Other results.
- Age in years: Y. Total months: 12 × Y + M.
- Total days: age-on date − date of birth, in whole days. The day of birth itself is not counted, so a baby is 1 day old the day after birth.
- Total weeks: total days as whole weeks and the days left.
- Born on a: the weekday of the date of birth.
- Next birthday: the date of birth plus Y + 1 years (February 28 for a February 29 birthday in a common year). It is always after the age-on date, so on a birthday the next one is a year away. Days to next birthday: next birthday − age-on date. Turns: Y + 1.
A date of birth after the age-on date gives no answer.
Assumptions
- A month is counted when the same day of the month is reached, with month ends clamped as above.
- Dates have no time of day or time zone, so daylight-saving changes cannot add or lose a day.
Worked examples by hand
Born January 15, 1990, age on December 31, 2024. The 2024 birthday (January 15, 2024) has passed, so Y = 34. From January 15, 2024, 11 months reach December 15, 2024, and 16 days more reach December 31: 34 years, 11 months, 16 days, or 34 × 12 + 11 = 419 months. Total days: 12,769. The next birthday is January 15, 2025, 15 days later, when the person turns 35.
Born March 1, 2000, age on February 28, 2024. The 2024 birthday (March 1) has not come yet, so Y = 23 (March 1, 2023). 11 months later is February 1, 2024, and 27 days more is February 28: 23 years, 11 months, 27 days. Total days: 8,764. The next birthday is March 1, 2024; 2024 is a leap year, so it is 2 days away.
Born February 29, 2000, age on February 28, 2026. 2026 is not a leap year, so the birthday falls on February 28, 2026, and the person is exactly 26 years, 0 months, 0 days. Total days: 26 × 365 = 9,490, plus the 6 leap days in between (February 29 of 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024): 9,496. February 29, 2000 was a Tuesday. The next birthday is February 28, 2027, 365 days later, at age 27.
Pat, born February 2, 2002, age on September 27, 2026. The 2026 birthday has passed, so Y = 24.
