What are my air fryer settings?
Type the oven temperature and time from a recipe and pick the food. The air fryer calculator gives a lower air fryer setting, a shorter time, and the USDA safe minimum internal temperature to check with a thermometer.
- Air fryer temperature
- 375 °F (190.6 °C)
Set the air fryer to 375 °F (190.6 °C) for about 16 minutes.
- Air fryer time (minutes)
- 16
- Air fryer (°F)
- 375
- Air fryer (°C)
- 190.6
- Safe internal temperature
- 165 °F (73.89 °C)
Air fryer temperature: 375 °F (190.6 °C). Set the air fryer to 375 °F (190.6 °C) for about 16 minutes.
How to calculate
Converts an oven recipe to an air fryer: a lower temperature and a shorter time (25 °F cooler and 20% shorter by default), with the USDA safe internal temperature for the food.
Example with the default inputs (Oven temperature 400 °F, Oven time 20 min, Food Chicken or turkey, Lower the heat by, °F 25, Shorten the time by 20%): Set the air fryer to 375 °F (190.6 °C) for about 16 minutes.
Method: Air fryer °F = oven °F − drop (25 °F by default); time = oven time × (1 − cut), with a 20% cut by default. °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9.
- An air fryer cooks like a small, strong convection oven, so food cooks faster at a lower setting. The 25 °F and 20% rule is a starting point; air fryers differ, so check early.
- Safe internal temperatures are the USDA FSIS minimums, measured with a food thermometer; they do not depend on the appliance.

How it works
The page’s stated rule, adjustable under More options:
- Temperature: air fryer °F = oven °F − drop, with a drop of 25 °F by default. An oven temperature typed in °C is first turned into °F: °F = °C × 9/5 + 32.
- Time: air fryer time = oven time × (1 − cut), with a cut of 20% by default, shown in minutes (1 h = 60 min).
- °C: (°F − 32) × 5/9.
The oven temperature can be from 200 °F to about 600 °F (93.3 to 315.6 °C), the time from 1 minute to 24 hours, the drop from 0 to 100 °F and the cut from 0 to 90%.
Safe internal temperature (USDA FSIS chart). Chicken or turkey 165 °F; ground beef or pork 160 °F; steak, chops or roast 145 °F, then rest 3 minutes; fish or shellfish 145 °F; egg dishes 160 °F; leftovers 165 °F. Other foods have no minimum here.
Exact arithmetic. Each value is read as the exact decimal you typed, in its unit, so each result is exact until it is rounded for display.
Output format. The air fryer setting and the safe temperature show as … °F (… °C), each to 4 significant figures (165 °F is shown as 73.89 °C; the FSIS chart rounds it to 73.9 °C). The time, °F and °C rows show 1 decimal place.
When there is no answer. The converted setting is below 200 °F.
Assumptions
- The 25 °F and 20% rule is a starting point, not a measurement of your air fryer.
- The safe temperatures are minimums inside the food, measured with a food thermometer.
Worked examples by hand
Chicken at 400 °F for 20 minutes. 400 − 25 = 375 °F = (375 − 32) × 5/9 = 190.6 °C; 20 × (1 − 0.20) = 16 minutes; poultry is safe at 165 °F (73.89 °C).
Pork chops at 200 °C for 30 minutes. 200 °C = 200 × 9/5 + 32 = 392 °F; 392 − 25 = 367 °F (186.1 °C); 30 × 0.8 = 24 minutes; chops are safe at 145 °F (62.78 °C), then rest 3 minutes.
Other questions people ask
How do I convert oven time and temperature to an air fryer?
A common rule is to lower the temperature by 25 °F and cut the time by about 20%. A recipe at 400 °F for 20 minutes becomes about 375 °F for 16 minutes. Check the food a few minutes early, because air fryers differ.
Why does an air fryer need a lower temperature?
An air fryer is a small countertop convection oven (USDA FSIS). Its fan moves hot air fast over the food, so the outside browns and cooks quicker than in a regular oven at the same setting.
How do I know the food is done?
Use a food thermometer. USDA FSIS safe minimums: poultry 165 °F, ground meat 160 °F, steaks, chops and roasts 145 °F with a 3-minute rest, fish 145 °F, egg dishes 160 °F, leftovers 165 °F.
What temperature range do air fryers use?
Most foods cook at 350 to 400 °F for 5 to 25 minutes, according to USDA FSIS. The page shows no answer if the converted setting falls below 200 °F.
Can I change the 25 °F and 20% rule?
Yes. Open More options to set your own temperature drop in °F and time cut in percent; set both to 0 to keep the oven values.
Should I fill the basket?
No. USDA FSIS warns that overcrowding blocks the air flow and can leave food undercooked. Cook large amounts in batches.
