How to calculate

Computes the number of parlays in a round robin bet of 3 to 10 picks, the total stake, the payout if every pick wins, and the payout for picks that won, pushed or lost.

Example with the default inputs (Odds format American, Picks [Odds -110, Result Open or won; Odds -110, Result Open or won; Odds -110, Result Open or won], Picks per parlay 2, Stake per parlay $10.00): A round robin of 3 parlays at $10.00 each costs $30.00 and pays $109.34 if every pick wins.

Method: Parlays = C(n, k) for n picks by k; each parlay pays stake × the product of its decimal odds (pushed picks drop out, a lost pick makes it pay 0); the round robin pays the sum.

  • Each parlay is a separate bet with the same stake, and its odds are the product of its picks’ decimal odds.
  • A pushed pick drops out of every parlay it is in; a parlay whose picks all pushed returns its stake.
  • Results are mathematics, not betting advice.

How it works

Each pick’s odds become decimal odds d as an exact fraction: American +A gives d = 1 + A ÷ 100, American −A gives d = 1 + 100 ÷ A (A ≥ 100), fractional a/b gives d = 1 + a ÷ b.

With n picks, parlays of k picks, and stake S per parlay:

  • Number of parlays = C(n, k) = n! ÷ (k! × (n − k)!), every set of k picks once.
  • Total stake = S × C(n, k).
  • Payout if every pick wins = S × the sum, over all parlays, of the product of the parlay’s decimal odds.
  • A pick with no result chosen (a row you just added, or a link without it) is open.
  • Payout with these results: the same sum, but a parlay that holds a lost pick adds 0, and a pushed pick counts as decimal odds 1 in each parlay it is in.
  • Profit = payout − total stake.

The size k must be from 2 to n; a size larger than the number of picks gives no answer. From 3 to 10 picks are allowed.

What you can type: spaces are ignored and − reads as -. Each format has its own shape, so odds typed in another format are never read as this one: the page says which format they are in and gives the same price in the chosen format. American odds have a + or − sign and a size of at least 100 (+150, -110, +1,000; commas are thousands commas). Decimal odds are a plain number above 1 with no sign (2.5); a single comma with no point is a decimal comma (2,5 is 2.5) unless exactly 3 digits follow it (1,000 is 1000), and any other comma is a thousands comma. Fractional odds are a/b, a:b, a-b or a to b with a and b above 0, or evens, even or evs (any letter case, to too); a bare number is not fractional odds. A number with no sign typed as American odds (100 or more), a whole number typed as fractional odds, or a number below 100 typed as a probability gets a message saying what to add (+150, 4/1, 40%). Decimal odds above 1,000,001 (American +100,000,000) give no answer.

Assumptions

  • Every parlay has the same stake and pays the product of its picks’ odds.
  • No taxes, fees or payout caps.

Worked examples by hand

Three picks at −110, by 2s, 10 each. C(3, 2) = 3 parlays, total stake 30. Each pick is d = 21/11, each parlay 441/121. If every pick wins: 3 × 10 × 441/121 = 13230/121 = 109.34, a profit of 79.34.

The same, with the third pick lost. Only the parlay of the first two picks pays: 10 × 441/121 = 36.45, a profit of 36.45 − 30 = 6.45.

Decimal 2, 3, 4 (pushed) and 1.5, by 3s, 5 each. C(4, 3) = 4 parlays, total stake 20. If every pick wins, the parlays are 2·3·4 = 24, 2·3·1.5 = 9, 2·4·1.5 = 12 and 3·4·1.5 = 18: 5 × 63 = 315, profit 295. With the 4 pushed, they are 6, 9, 3 and 4.5: 5 × 22.5 = 112.50, profit 92.50.

A note on betting

These results are mathematics, not advice. Every bet can lose, and each parlay carries the bookmaker’s margin. If gambling is causing problems for you or someone you know, the US National Problem Gambling Helpline is 1-800-MY-RESET (call or text).

Other questions people ask

How many parlays are in a round robin?

The number of ways to choose the parlay size k from n picks: C(n, k) = n! ÷ (k! × (n − k)!). Three picks by 2s make 3 parlays, four picks by 2s make 6, and five picks by 3s make 10.

How much does a round robin cost?

The stake per parlay times the number of parlays. Four picks by 2s at 10 each is 6 parlays, so 60 in total.

How is a round robin paid?

Each parlay is settled on its own: it pays stake × the product of its picks’ decimal odds, or nothing if one of its picks lost. The round robin pays the sum. So it can still pay when some picks lose, unlike a single parlay of every pick.

What happens when a pick pushes?

The pushed pick drops out of each parlay it is in, and those parlays pay on their other picks. A 2-pick parlay with one push pays like a single bet on the other pick.

Is a round robin better than a parlay?

It is a different bet, not a better one. It spreads the stake over many smaller parlays: it can pay when a pick loses, but it costs more in total and pays less than one parlay when every pick wins. Each parlay still carries the bookmaker’s margin.
