What is my percent to goal?
Type your progress so far and your goal. The percent to goal calculator shows how far along you are as a percent, and how much is left or how far past the goal you are.
- Percent to goal
- 75.00%
You are 75.00% of the way to your goal.
- Left to reach the goal
- 12,500
- Percent left
- 25.00%
Percent to goal: 75.00%. You are 75.00% of the way to your goal.
How to calculate
Finds how far along you are toward a goal as a percent: progress ÷ goal × 100, with the amount still left, or how far past the goal you are.
Example with the default inputs (Progress so far 37,500, Goal 50,000): You are 75.00% of the way to your goal.
Method: Percent to goal = progress ÷ goal × 100. Left = goal − progress (0 once reached); percent left = 100 − percent to goal (0 once reached); past the goal by = progress − goal.
- Progress and goal are in the same units; the goal is above 0.
- Values are taken exactly as typed; the percents are rounded to 2 decimal places, halves away from zero.

How it works
Percent to goal is the percent equation, amount = percent × base, with the progress as the amount and the goal as the base:
- Percent to goal = progress ÷ goal × 100
- Left = goal − progress, or 0 once progress ≥ goal
- Percent left = 100 − percent to goal, or 0 once progress ≥ goal
- Past the goal by = progress − goal, shown only when progress > goal
The goal must be from 0.000001 to 1,000,000,000,000,000; the progress can be from −1,000,000,000,000,000 to the same top, and negative for a loss.
Exact arithmetic. Each value is read exactly as typed, so 0.1 ÷ 0.8 is exactly 0.125.
Output format. Percent to goal and percent left are text with exactly 2 decimal places and a % sign, rounded half away from zero, with a true minus sign (−) when negative. "Left" and "past the goal by" are numbers shown to 15 significant figures.
Worked examples by hand
37,500 of 50,000. 37,500 ÷ 50,000 = 0.75 → 75.00%; left 12,500, 25.00%.
2 of 3. 2 ÷ 3 = 0.6666… → 66.67%; left 1, 33.333…% → 33.33%.
130 of 120. 130 ÷ 120 = 1.08333… → 108.33%; left 0, 0.00%; past the goal by 10.
0.1 of 0.8. 0.1 ÷ 0.8 = 0.125 → 12.50%; left 0.7.
1 of 8. 12.5% → 12.50%; left 87.5% → 87.50%.
Other questions people ask
How do I work out percent to goal?
Divide what you have done by the goal and multiply by 100. Sales of 37,500 against a 50,000 target are 37,500 ÷ 50,000 × 100 = 75% to goal.
How much is left to reach my goal?
Subtract your progress from the goal: 50,000 − 37,500 = 12,500 left, which is 25% of the goal.
Can I be more than 100% to goal?
Yes. 130 against a goal of 120 is 108.33% to goal, 10 past it.
Does the unit matter?
No, as long as the progress and the goal use the same unit: dollars, units sold, miles, pounds lost or pages read.
What if my progress is negative?
A loss gives a negative percent: −500 against a 2,000 goal is −25%, and 2,500 is left.
How is it rounded?
The percents are shown to 2 decimal places, with a half rounded away from zero; the amount left keeps full precision.
