What golf club length do I need?
Measure from the crease of your wrist to the floor, or use your height, and pick men’s or women’s and steel or graphite. The golf club length calculator gives your starting length change from a published fitting chart and the length of each club from driver to sand wedge.

How to calculate
Gives a starting golf club length from your wrist-to-floor measurement or height: how much longer or shorter than standard, and the length of each club for men’s or women’s, steel or graphite sets.
Example with the default inputs (Fit by Wrist to floor, Wrist to floor 35 in, Clubs Men’s, Shafts Graphite): Your clubs: standard length, a 37.25 in 7-iron and a 45 in driver.
Method: change = chart band of the wrist-to-floor (or height) measurement, −1 to +1.5 in; each club = standard length for the set and shaft + change; putter = standard.
- This is a starting point. A fitter also looks at your swing, tempo and how well you strike the ball; driver length in particular is often fitted shorter for control.
- Below the chart’s lowest band the change stays −1 in, and from its top band up it is +1.5 in.
- Standard lengths differ by maker; these are Pinemeadow Golf’s. Women’s clubs are 1 in shorter than men’s.
- A measurement is read exactly in the unit typed, so 30 in (76.2 cm) is compared with the 76 cm band edge exactly.

How it works
Length change. The measurement is compared with the My Golf Barn chart, in centimeters (1 in = 2.54 cm). Each band starts at its lower edge and runs up to the next band's edge:
| Wrist to floor | Height | Change |
|---|---|---|
| below 76 cm | below 160 cm | −1 in |
| 76 to 81 cm | 160 to 168 cm | −½ in |
| 81 to 91 cm | 168 to 183 cm | standard |
| 91 to 97 cm | 183 to 191 cm | +½ in |
| 97 to 102 cm | 191 to 198 cm | +1 in |
| 102 cm and above | 198 cm and above | +1½ in |
The chart's lowest band is 71 to 76 cm (152 to 160 cm tall); below it the change stays −1 in.
Club lengths. Each club is its standard length plus the change. Standard men's graphite lengths (Pinemeadow Golf): driver 45 in, 3-wood 43, 5-wood 42, 4-iron 38.75, 5-iron 38.25, 6-iron 37.75, 7-iron 37.25, 8-iron 36.75, 9-iron, pitching wedge and sand wedge 36.25. Steel shafts take 1 in off the woods and driver and ½ in off the irons and wedges; women's clubs take 1 in off every club. The putter is the standard 34 in (men's) or 33 in (women's), with no change.
A measurement is read as the exact decimal you typed in its unit, so 30 in is exactly 76.2 cm and lands in the 76 to 81 cm band.
Rules
- Wrist to floor is from 20 in to 50 in; height from 36 in to 96 in (3 ft to 8 ft). Each can be typed in inches, feet and inches, centimeters or meters.
Output format. The change as "standard length", "+0.5 in", "−1 in" and so on (true minus sign), and as a number of inches. Club lengths to 2 decimal places in inches (centimeters in Metric).
Worked examples by hand
35 in wrist to floor, men's graphite. 35 × 2.54 = 88.9 cm, in the 81 to 91 cm band: standard length. Driver 45 in, 7-iron 37.25 in.
95 cm, men's steel. In the 91 to 97 cm band: +0.5 in. Driver 44 + 0.5 = 44.5 in; 5-iron 37.75 + 0.5 = 38.25 in.
30 in, women's graphite. 30 × 2.54 = 76.2 cm, just inside the 76 to 81 cm band: −0.5 in. Driver 44 − 0.5 = 43.5 in, 7-iron 36.25 − 0.5 = 35.75 in, putter 33 in.
Height 76 in (193.04 cm). In the 191 to 198 cm band: +1 in.
Exactly 76 cm wrist to floor. The edge starts the band above it: −0.5 in.
Other questions people ask
How do I know what length golf clubs I need?
Start with your wrist-to-floor measurement: stand straight in flat shoes with your arms hanging relaxed and measure from the crease of your wrist to the floor. On the My Golf Barn chart, 81 to 91 cm (about 32 to 36 in) is standard length, 91 to 97 cm is ½ in longer, and 76 to 81 cm is ½ in shorter.
Is wrist-to-floor better than height?
Yes. Two people of the same height can have different arm lengths, and the wrist-to-floor measurement captures both. Hireko Golf calls it a more accurate starting point than height alone, and a tall golfer with long arms can need standard or even shorter clubs.
What is a standard club length?
There is no industry standard; each maker sets its own. Pinemeadow Golf’s men’s graphite lengths are 45 in for the driver, 43 in for the 3-wood and 37.25 in for the 7-iron. Steel shafts are 1 in shorter in the woods and ½ in in the irons, and women’s clubs are 1 in shorter.
How do I apply a length change to my set?
Add the same change to every club. If the chart says +½ in, a 37.25 in 7-iron becomes 37.75 in and a 45 in driver becomes 45.5 in. The calculator lists every club with the change added. The putter is fitted by posture, so it stays at the standard length.
Should I always play longer clubs if I am tall?
No. Longer clubs can add speed, but they are harder to hit in the center of the face. Club fitters often fit the driver shorter than the chart for control. Treat the result as a starting point and confirm it with a fitter or by testing clubs.
