What is my swim pace per 100?

Type any two of distance, time and pace, and choose per 100 meters or per 100 yards. The swim pace calculator gives the third, with your pace in both units and your average speed.

Pace: 2:00 per 100 m. Swimming 1,640 yd in 30:00 is a pace of 2:00 per 100 m.

How to calculate

Computes swimming pace per 100 meters or per 100 yards from distance and time, or the finish time or distance from a pace, with the average speed.

Example with the default inputs (Distance 1,640.41994750656 yd, Time 30 min, Pace per 100 m): Swimming 1,640 yd in 30:00 is a pace of 2:00 per 100 m.

Formula: pace = time ÷ (distance ÷ 100 m), or time ÷ (distance ÷ 100 yd) with 1 yd = 0.9144 m; speed = distance ÷ time.

  • The pace is the average over the whole swim, turns and rests included.
  • Finish time and paces are rounded to the nearest second for display.
  • The distance is at least 1 meter, and the time and the pace are at least 1 second.

How it works

Type two of the three values; the page solves the third. Times are in seconds inside, distances in meters.

  • Per 100 m: pace = time ÷ (distance ÷ 100 m), so time = pace × distance ÷ 100 m and distance = time × 100 m ÷ pace.
  • Per 100 yd: the same with 100 yd = 91.44 m (1 yd = 0.9144 m exactly).
  • Pace per 100 m = time × 100 ÷ distance; pace per 100 yd = time × 91.44 ÷ distance. Both are shown either way.
  • Average speed = distance ÷ time, in km/h.
  • Paces and the finish time show as m:ss (h:mm:ss from an hour), rounded to the nearest second.

Assumptions

  • The pace is an average over the whole swim, turns and rests included.
  • Distance at least 1 m; time and pace at least 1 s.

Worked examples by hand

1,500 m in 30:00. 1,800 s ÷ 15 = 2:00 per 100 m. Per 100 yd: 120 × 0.9144 = 109.7 s = 1:50. Speed 1.5 km ÷ 0.5 h = 3 km/h.

1,650 yd in 27:30. 1,650 s ÷ 16.5 = 1:40 per 100 yd. Per 100 m: 100 ÷ 0.9144 = 109.4 s = 1:49.

400 m at 1:35 per 100 m. 4 × 95 s = 380 s: 6:20.

One hour at 1:30 per 100 yd. 3,600 ÷ 90 = 40 hundreds of yards = 4,000 yd = 3,657.6 m.

Other questions people ask

How do I calculate swim pace per 100?

Divide your time by the distance in hundreds. 1,500 m in 30 minutes is 1,800 s ÷ 15 = 120 s: 2:00 per 100 m.

How do I convert pace per 100 yards to per 100 meters?

100 yd is 91.44 m, so divide the pace per 100 yd by 0.9144. A 1:40 pace per 100 yd is 100 ÷ 0.9144 = 109.4 s: 1:49 per 100 m.

How long will a swim take at my pace?

Multiply the pace by the distance in hundreds. 400 m at 1:35 per 100 m is 4 × 95 s = 380 s, or 6:20.

What is a good swim pace?

Many fitness swimmers hold 2:00 to 2:30 per 100 m over a long swim; strong triathletes swim near 1:30 per 100 m, and elite 1,500 m swimmers under 1:00.

How far is a mile swim?

A pool mile is usually 1,650 yd (66 lengths of a 25-yard pool), a little short of the 1,760 yd land mile. Open-water miles are often 1,500 or 1,609 m.
