How to change decimal to percent?
Type a decimal. The decimal to percent calculator multiplies it by 100 and shows the percent with every digit, plus the working.
- Percent
- 62.5%
0.625 × 100 = 62.5%.
- Percent (number)
- 62.5
- How
- 0.625 × 100 = 62.5%
Percent: 62.5%. 0.625 × 100 = 62.5%.
How to calculate
Turns a decimal into a percent by multiplying by 100, exactly as typed: 0.625 is 62.5% and 1.2 is 120%.
Example with the default inputs (Decimal 0.625): 0.625 × 100 = 62.5%.
Method: percent = decimal × 100: move the decimal point two places to the right and add the % sign.
- The decimal is taken exactly as typed, so the percent shows every digit with no rounding.
- A decimal above 1 gives a percent above 100%; a negative decimal gives a negative percent.

How it works
Percent means "per hundred", so
percent = decimal × 100
Multiplying by 100 moves the decimal point two places to the right; add zeros when the decimal has fewer than two places after the point.
Exact arithmetic. The decimal is read exactly as typed (the shortest decimal that gives the stored number), so the percent is exact and shows every digit. No rounding is done. A negative decimal keeps its sign, shown with a true minus sign (−).
Range. The decimal can be from −1,000,000,000,000 to 1,000,000,000,000.
Output format. The headline is the percent with every digit and a % sign, no thousands separators. The "How" line reads <decimal> × 100 = <percent>%. The number row shows the percent without the sign.
Worked examples by hand
0.625. 0.625 × 100 = 62.5%.
0.05. 0.05 × 100 = 5%.
1.2. 1.2 × 100 = 120%.
−0.0035. −0.0035 × 100 = −0.35%.
0.1. 0.1 × 100 = 10% exactly.
Other questions people ask
How do you change a decimal to a percent?
Multiply by 100 and add the % sign. In practice you move the decimal point two places to the right: 0.625 becomes 62.5%.
What is 0.05 as a percent?
0.05 × 100 = 5, so 0.05 is 5%. Add zeros as needed when you move the point: 0.005 is 0.5%.
Can a percent be more than 100%?
Yes. Any decimal above 1 is more than 100%: 1.2 is 120% and 3 is 300%.
What about a negative decimal?
The sign stays: −0.0035 is −0.35%. A negative percent often stands for a decrease.
Why does the answer not round?
The page works on the decimal exactly as you typed it, so multiplying by 100 only moves the point. 0.1 gives exactly 10%, not 10.000000000000002%.
How do I go back from a percent to a decimal?
Divide by 100, or move the point two places to the left: 62.5% is 0.625. The percent to decimal calculator does this.
