What is my law school GPA?
Enter each graded course and its credits. The LSAC GPA calculator converts the grades with the LSAC table, counts every attempt, and gives the GPA law schools see in your Academic Summary Report.
- LSAC GPA
- 3.36
Your LSAC GPA is 3.36 over 13 hours.
- Graded hours
- 13
- Grade points
- 43.66
- Courses counted
- 4
LSAC GPA: 3.36. Your LSAC GPA is 3.36 over 13 hours.
How to calculate
Recalculates your undergraduate GPA the way LSAC does for law school applications: every graded course on the 4.33 scale, A+ as 4.33, repeats included, weighted by credits.
Example with the default inputs (Courses [Grade A+, Credits 3; Grade A−, Credits 4; Grade B+, Credits 3; Grade C, Credits 3], Credit hours are Semester): Your LSAC GPA is 3.36 over 13 hours.
Method: LSAC GPA = Σ(grade value × semester hours) ÷ Σ(semester hours), over every counted course attempt; semester hours = quarter hours × 0.67.
- Grade values follow the LSAC conversion table; pass grades and nonpunitive withdrawals are left out, and a failing grade counts as 0.
- Every attempt of a repeated course counts, even when your school replaced the grade.
- The GPA is shown to 2 decimal places, halves rounded up; LSAC’s own report is the final word.

How it works
Each row is one course attempt: a letter grade and its credit hours (0.01 to 30). Up to 60 rows.
Grade values (LSAC table): A+ 4.33, A 4.00, A− 3.67, AB 3.33, B+ 3.33, B 3.00, B− 2.67, BC 2.33, C+ 2.33, C 2.00, C− 1.67, CD 1.33, D+ 1.33, D 1.00, D− 0.67, F (or E, DE, DF) 0.00. A row marked "Not counted (P, W)" is left out.
- Semester hours h = credits for semester hours, or credits × 0.67 for quarter hours (one choice for all rows).
- Grade points = Σ(grade value × h) over the counted rows.
- LSAC GPA = grade points ÷ Σ h.
A row without credits is left out. At least one row must have a counted grade and credits. Every attempt of a repeated course is its own row and counts. The arithmetic is exact.
Output format. The GPA is text with exactly 2 decimal places, rounded half up. Graded hours show to 2 decimal places and grade points to 4.
Worked examples by hand
A+ (3), A− (4), B+ (3), C (3). Points = 4.33 × 3 + 3.67 × 4 + 3.33 × 3 + 2 × 3 = 12.99 + 14.68 + 9.99 + 6 = 43.66; hours 13; GPA = 43.66 ÷ 13 = 3.358… → 3.36.
F (3), then B (3) on the retake, and a pass (3). Both attempts count, the pass does not: (0 × 3 + 3 × 3) ÷ 6 = 1.50.
Quarter hours: A (4), B− (4), D− (2). Semester hours 2.68, 2.68 and 1.34, total 6.7. Points = 4 × 2.68 + 2.67 × 2.68 + 0.67 × 1.34 = 10.72 + 7.1556 + 0.8978 = 18.7734. GPA = 18.7734 ÷ 6.7 = 2.802 → 2.80.
Other questions people ask
How does LSAC calculate GPA?
It converts every grade on your transcripts to its 4.33-point table (A+ 4.33, A 4.00, A− 3.67, B+ 3.33 and so on), multiplies each by the course’s semester hours, adds them up, and divides by the total hours.
Why is my LSAC GPA different from my school GPA?
Three common reasons: LSAC counts an A+ as 4.33 where many schools cap it at 4.0; it counts every attempt of a repeated course, even if your school replaced the grade; and it includes grades from every college you attended.
Do pass/fail and withdrawals count?
A pass is left out of the GPA. A withdrawal is left out when the school treats it as nonpunitive. A failing grade counts as 0.
How are quarter hours handled?
LSAC multiplies quarter hours by 0.67 to get semester hours. If all your courses are in quarter hours, the GPA is the same either way; the hours change.
What are AB, BC and CD grades?
Some schools give in-between grades. LSAC counts AB as 3.33, BC as 2.33 and CD as 1.33, the same as B+, C+ and D+.
Is this my official GPA?
No. It estimates the LSAC GPA from what you enter. Your official LSAC GPA is in the Academic Summary Report that LSAC sends to law schools.
