How to calculate
Counts the days from today, or any date you choose, to a date you pick, with its weekday and the same time in weeks and in months.
Example with the default inputs (Count to September 30, 2027, Count from September 30, 2026) on the example date Wednesday, September 30, 2026: From September 30, 2026, there are 365 days until September 30, 2027.
Method: Days until = the date − the start date, in calendar days.
- The start date itself is not counted: from the day before, the count is 1; on the day itself, it is 0.
- Dates are calendar days with no time of day, so a time zone or a daylight-saving change never adds or loses a day.
- Years, months, and days: the most whole years, then the most whole months, then the days left. A month from a day that the next month does not have ends on that month’s last day (January 31 plus one month is February 28, or 29 in a leap year).
- Dates from January 1, 1900 to December 31, 2400 work.

How it works
Both dates are calendar dates with no time of day. The count is
- days until = the date you count to − the date you count from, in calendar days.
The date you count from is not counted, so the count is 1 on the day before and 0 on the date itself. A date before the start date has no answer. Leap years count February 29 like any other day.
The same span is also shown as:
- In weeks: the days divided by 7, as whole weeks and the days left (94 days is 13 weeks and 3 days).
- In years, months, and days: from the start date, the most whole years, then the most whole months, then the days left. A month from a day that the next month does not have ends on that month’s last day (January 31 plus one month is February 28, or 29 in a leap year).
The date you count to also shows its day of the week.
Worked examples by hand
- From September 29, 2026 to January 1, 2027. September has 30 days, so 1 day is left in it; then October 31, November 30, December 31, and 1 day into January: 1 + 31 + 30 + 31 + 1 = 94 days, which is 13 weeks (91 days) and 3 days. January 1, 2027 is a Friday.
- From February 1, 2028 to March 1, 2028. 2028 is a leap year, so February has 29 days: 29 days, which is exactly 1 month. March 1, 2028 is a Wednesday.
- From March 7, 2026 to March 9, 2026. US clocks go forward on Sunday, March 8, 2026, but the count is still 9 − 7 = 2 days. March 9, 2026 is a Monday.
- From December 25, 2026 to December 25, 2026. The same day: 0 days.
Other questions people ask
How do I count the days until a date?
Take the date you count to minus the date you count from, in calendar days. From September 29, 2026 to January 1, 2027, that is 1 day left in September, 31 in October, 30 in November, 31 in December, and 1 more to reach January 1: 94 days.
Does the count include today?
No. The start date is not counted, so the day before the date the count is 1, and on the date itself it is 0. To count both the first and the last day, add 1.
Can a time zone or a daylight saving change make the count wrong?
No. The count uses calendar dates with no time of day, so a night when the clocks go forward or back still counts as one day. The calculator starts from the date on your own device, so it counts from your today wherever you are.
What if the date has already passed?
Then there is nothing left to count down, and the calculator asks for a later date. To count the days since a past date, use the Days Between Dates Calculator.
Why does the answer change from day to day?
The start date is today unless you change it, so each day the count is one smaller. The page reads today’s date from your device when it opens; the number in the page before that is for the day the page was built, and says so.
