How to calculate
Turns an item count into Minecraft stacks of 64 or 16 with the items left over, and the inventory slots, chests, double chests and shulker boxes they fill.
Example with the default inputs (Items 1,000, Stack size 64): 1,000 items is 15 stacks + 40.
Method: stacks = ⌊items ÷ size⌋; left over = items − stacks × size; slots = ⌈items ÷ size⌉; shulker boxes = ⌈slots ÷ 27⌉; double chests = ⌈slots ÷ 54⌉.
- Every slot is filled to the full stack size before the next is used.
- A chest and a shulker box hold 27 slots; a double chest 54.

How it works
The item count is a whole number and the stack size is 64, 16 or 1.
- Whole stacks = ⌊items ÷ stack size⌋ (rounded down).
- Items left over = items − whole stacks × stack size.
- Slots needed = ⌈items ÷ stack size⌉ (rounded up).
- Stacks as a decimal = items ÷ stack size.
- Shulker boxes or chests = ⌈slots ÷ 27⌉.
- Double chests = ⌈slots ÷ 54⌉.
The headline reads "N stacks + R", or "N stacks" when nothing is left over.
Worked examples by hand
1,000 items, stacks of 64. 1,000 ÷ 64 = 15.625: 15 × 64 = 960, so 15 stacks + 40. 16 slots: 1 shulker box, 1 double chest.
1,728 items, stacks of 64. 1,728 ÷ 64 = 27 exactly: 27 stacks, one full shulker box.
100 items, stacks of 16. 6 × 16 = 96: 6 stacks + 4, 7 slots.
100,000 items, stacks of 64. 1,562 × 64 = 99,968: 1,562 stacks + 32, 1,563 slots. 1,563 ÷ 27 = 57.9, so 58 shulker boxes; 1,563 ÷ 54 = 28.9, so 29 double chests.

How many items are in a stack in Minecraft?
Most blocks and items stack to 64. Some, such as ender pearls, snowballs, eggs and signs, stack to 16. Tools, armor and potions do not stack.
How many stacks is 1,000 items?
1,000 ÷ 64 = 15.625: 15 full stacks (960 items) and 40 left over, so 16 slots.
How many items fit in a shulker box?
A shulker box has 27 slots, so 27 × 64 = 1,728 items that stack to 64, or 27 × 16 = 432 that stack to 16.
How many items fit in a double chest?
A double (large) chest has 54 slots: 54 × 64 = 3,456 items that stack to 64.
How do I count stacks from items by hand?
Divide by the stack size and keep the whole part for full stacks; the remainder is the items left over. Round the division up for the slots used.
