What is my combat level?
Type your seven combat skill levels. The combat calculator for OSRS gives your combat level, which style counts (melee, ranged or magic), and how many levels in each skill raise it by one.

Combat level: 70. Your combat level is 70 (Melee).
How to calculate
Works out your Old School RuneScape combat level from Attack, Strength, Defence, Hitpoints, Prayer, Ranged and Magic, and the levels you need for the next one.
Example with the default inputs (Attack 60, Strength 60, Defence 50, Hitpoints 55, Prayer 43, Ranged 50, Magic 55): Your combat level is 70 (Melee).
Method: base = ¼ × (Defence + Hitpoints + ⌊Prayer ÷ 2⌋); melee = 13/40 × (Attack + Strength); ranged = 13/40 × ⌊3 × Ranged ÷ 2⌋; magic = 13/40 × ⌊3 × Magic ÷ 2⌋; combat level = ⌊base + max(melee, ranged, magic)⌋.
- Levels are the base levels from 1 to 99 (Hitpoints from 10), not boosted levels.
- The levels to the next combat level raise one skill at a time and keep the others as they are.

How it works
Every level is a whole number from 1 to 99 (Hitpoints from 10). ⌊x⌋ means x rounded down.
- Base = ¼ × (Defence + Hitpoints + ⌊Prayer ÷ 2⌋)
- Melee = 13/40 × (Attack + Strength)
- Ranged = 13/40 × ⌊3 × Ranged ÷ 2⌋
- Magic = 13/40 × ⌊3 × Magic ÷ 2⌋
- Combat level = ⌊base + max(melee, ranged, magic)⌋, and the combat type is the largest of the three (melee first, then ranged, on a tie).
Levels to the next combat level. For one skill at a time, with the others unchanged, the fewest more levels (up to 99) that make the combat level go up by 1. Attack and Strength count the same, so the page raises the lower of the two; the same for Defence and Hitpoints. When 99 is not enough, the line is left out.
Worked examples by hand
A new account: 1 in all, 10 Hitpoints. Base = ¼ × (1 + 10 + 0) = 2.75. Melee = 13/40 × 2 = 0.65; ranged = magic = 13/40 × 1 = 0.325. 2.75 + 0.65 = 3.4, so level 3.
Every skill at 99. Base = ¼ × (99 + 99 + 49) = 61.75. Melee = 13/40 × 198 = 64.35; ranged = magic = 13/40 × 148 = 48.1. 61.75 + 64.35 = 126.1, so level 126.
Ranged account: Defence, Hitpoints, Prayer and Ranged 99, the rest 1. Base = 61.75; ranged = 48.1. 109.85, so level 109.
The default: Attack 60, Strength 60, Defence 50, Hitpoints 55, Prayer 43, Ranged 50, Magic 55. Base = ¼ × (50 + 55 + 21) = 31.5; melee = 13/40 × 120 = 39; ranged = 13/40 × 75 = 24.375; magic = 13/40 × 82 = 26.65. 31.5 + 39 = 70.5, so level 70. To reach 71 (71 − 70.5 = 0.5 more): Attack +2 (0.65), Defence +2 (0.5), Prayer +3 (to 46, ⌊46 ÷ 2⌋ = 23, +0.5).
Other questions people ask
How is the OSRS combat level calculated?
Base = ¼ × (Defence + Hitpoints + ⌊Prayer ÷ 2⌋). Melee = 13/40 × (Attack + Strength), ranged = 13/40 × ⌊1.5 × Ranged⌋ and magic = 13/40 × ⌊1.5 × Magic⌋. The combat level is base plus the largest of the three, rounded down.
What is the highest combat level?
126, with every combat skill at 99: base 61.75 plus melee 64.35 is 126.1. A ranged or magic account with 1 Attack and 1 Strength stops at 109.
Why does a new account start at combat level 3?
A new account has 10 Hitpoints and 1 in every other skill: base = ¼ × (1 + 10 + 0) = 2.75, plus melee 13/40 × 2 = 0.65, is 3.4, rounded down to 3.
Which skills raise combat level fastest?
For a melee account each Attack or Strength level adds 0.325, each Defence or Hitpoints level 0.25, and each two Prayer levels 0.25. For a ranged or magic account each Ranged or Magic level adds about 0.4875.
Why did my Prayer level not raise my combat level?
Only half the Prayer level counts, rounded down, so Prayer adds to combat on even levels only.
Do boosted levels count?
No. The combat level uses your base levels. Potions and other boosts do not change it.
